03 clouds by g-r-a

Gabi was particularly inspired by the Cumulonimbus this week - big puff snow jobbers hanging in the sky. With a twist of "small stories" this typeface was designed for Gabi's jewellery and cards.

This typeface is now unavailable for download - but will be included in the limited edition CD Rom of all 52 Typefaces at the beginning of 2010. To secure a CD Rom, please email us (Phil & Gabi) at info@g-r-a.co.uk.If you would like to get involved in making a typeface for the project, please email us at : info@g-r-a.co.uk or leave a comment below!

The Man from Haynes, he says YES!

I've just had an email from Haynes about the use of the Rover216 drawings as a typeface, and they are very happy for me to use them as a free font. Here's the email from Matthew Minter, Editorial Director of the Haynes Manuals.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your enquiry, which has been passed to me.

I hereby grant you a non-exclusive limited licence, valid initially for 5 years, to use the images from the Haynes Rover 216 manual for the purpose you describe, on the understanding that this is not for profit and that Haynes will be acknowledged holding the copyright in the original images.

With best wishes

02 Rover216 - inspired by Haynes Manuals

Rover 216 was inspired by the Haynes Manual for the Rover 213 & 216 (1984 - 1989).

Each character in the typeface is an unadulterated element of part of the technical drawings (bar two, which needed "slight" tweaking to make them work). The means that each and every letter is "as is" from the book - minus their surroundings. A difficult task indeed, quite a challenge to find letterforms in such detailed drawings. Not all letterforms are truly representative of the characters, but within the context of "a font" - the eye & brain start to make sense of the abstract.

I have enjoyed using the font for background elements / subtle touches to designs, I hope you find a suitable use for it too!

This typeface is now unavailable for download - but will be included in the limited edition CD Rom of all 52 Typefaces at the beginning of 2010. To secure a CD Rom, please email us (Phil & Gabi) at info@g-r-a.co.uk.

01 - Twigtype (jan11)

01 Jan 2009 - TwigType

Well folks, here it is, the first typeface for our project.

This was originally a hand made alphabet to show at the NEOS2008 event Gabi and I held at the the Gordon Highlanders Museum ( http://g-r-a.co.uk/blog_photos.htm ).

We are preparing for a show at Limousine Bull - entitled "Avian constructs (in a human context)" - and we'd started to explore the materials birds make nests from. We had also recently moved to Inverurie, and started the garden from scratch... we are taking some of the work we created further, for the final exhibition (in March..."some time" (we need to finalise the dates)) - and after living in a detached "private" space (Kingswells), we now live in a semi detached, very close community, where people like to "kain fit's ginging on"... so we are exploring communication, secrecy, seclusion and subtlety (no alliteration was hurt in the making of the blog).

This typeface is now unavailable for download - but will be included in the limited edition CD Rom of all 52 Typefaces at the beginning of 2010. To secure a CD Rom, please email us (Phil & Gabi) at info@g-r-a.co.uk.

Happy New Year

Yes indeed!...happy 2009...
we've figured out that the typefaces we aim to produce will be released every Sunday (Excluding the 4th of Jan 2009). We will upload the usable typeface (for that week) - if indeed we produce a "working" typeface (some may be collections of photos / drawings etc)...I am sure we will figure it out as we go along.

Wish us luck! and we hope you enjoy it!

yours, Phil & Gabi.
